Fire Chief William “Shorty” Bryson honored by the Board of County Commissioners


(MIAMI, March 5, 2013) – On Tuesday March 5th, the Board of County Commissioners presented retired Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) Chief William W. Bryson with a Proclamation honoring him for his service to Miami-Dade County.

Fire Chief Bryson is a 38-year South Florida fire-rescue veteran. Chief Bryson began his career in 1975 at the City of Miami Fire-Rescue Department. He worked through the ranks to become the Fire Chief from 2000 through 2009. At the City, he served as a driver engineer instructor, a shift commander for the hazardous materials team, a station commander, Chief of Technical Services and the Deputy Fire Chief.

Chief Bryson has been an active member of our community acting as a Trustee for the United Way of Miami-Dade, a member of Role Model 5000, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for Labor Research & Studies at FIU. Fire Chief Bryson also served as a member of the Governor’s Southeast Domestic Security Task Force, created after the attacks on 9/11 to provide a response to any weapons of mass destruction or terrorist incidents that may occur within the state.
